RE: DGNws location

I have been struggling with DGNWS issues also.

I have successfully placed all the dgnws files in one directory ==> Worksets/_DGNWS

I set the following variables in the WorkSpaceSetup.cfg:

_USTN_WORKSETSDGNWSROOT = $(_USTN_CONFIGURATION)Worksets/_DGNWS/

 _USTN_WORKSETDGNWS  = $(_USTN_WORKSETSDGNWSROOT)$(_USTN_WORKSETNAME).dgnws

I do NOT manually create the worksets. I use the "Create WorkSet" from the WorkSet pulldown of the Work Page.

I hope this helps a bit.

Hi All,

I'm a novice MicroStation connect user ( basivc ccan open view select * recently Facet curves!). I have been given a drawing in millimetres and need to scale this drawing so it remains in the correct coordinates system . i.e scale drawing in X,Y & Z by 0.001 about coordinate x=0,y=0 & z=0. Is there any easy way to do this? so then when I export this to a dwg it is in meters and in the correct Easting/Northing & Elevation

MicroStation Slow Opening Times - Is there a start-up log that could help me troubleshoot start times?

$

Hi there,

For some reason I am having issues where MicroStation can sometimes take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins from clicking to open a drawing and the drawing being opened.
I know that there are lots of factors that can effect this loading time ranging including work space configuration, drawing file size and complexity, drawing and work space file location, computer specs, internet speeds etc.
Since there are so many moving parts, trouble shooting each one is time consuming and complex.

Is there a way to activate a debug or start-up log that tracks what MicroStation is doing while it is opening?

A log like this could be very helpful in diagnosing the start-up times.
I know there is an exception log, but this only provides information if there is an error, and doesn't really provide a timestamped process of startup.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Our company uses Microstation V8i (SELECTseries 4)

Thanks,

Chris

Issues opening CHM help files

$

 Product:MicroStation
 Version:V8, XM, V8i
 Environment:N\A
 Area:Documentation & Help
 Subarea:N\A

Background

Sometimes users are facing issues when opening help files (compiled into CHM format) that are provided with Bentley applications. Most often these issues are related to user's environment and is not a flaw in help itself.  I’ll try to cover most frequent ones in this topic.

1. Cannot view CHM files from a remote location in network

Typically the following message is displayed:

Cause

Windows security update prevents accessing chm files over network because of vulnerability that could allow remote code execution.

Solution

  1. Easiest way to solve this issue is moving chm file to local drive. However you may be unaware you are using a network location, in order to check it: right click on the “Navigation to the webpage was canceled” message or anywhere in help reader window, click properties and look at the "Address" field.  Look to the path after the “mk:@MSITStore:“ phrase. If it begins with double slash, then you are using a networked drive.
  2. If you have to use network drive to store chm files, then please review following Microsoft recommendations to enable it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054

2. Opening help from application or directly from disk shows error message

The message contains the following:

"Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\readme_MicroStation.chm".

A key in this message is "mk:@MSITStore" phrase. This solution may not apply if you get a different error type.

Cause

The Microsoft Help system is damaged. Typically it's hard to identify specific causes, but most often it is because of third party installers that either deploy older versions of Help components or fail to register them properly.

Solution

  1. Open command prompt as administrator
  2. Run the following commands to reregister help system components:
    regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\hhctrl.ocx
    regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\itss.dll

3. Help is displayed as XML instead of formatted text

Cause:

This is caused by incorrect .htm and .html filetype information in system's registry. Microsoft's HTML Help components will go wrong if a particular registry value is set incorrectly. Also you may notice that only some chm files are displayed incorectly, however other help files are working fine. It might happen if default browser was changed
from Firefox/chrome to Internet Explorer or the other way around.

Solution:

  1. Open regedit and do the following changes:
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.htm and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.html

Ensure there is a “Content Type” key (string type) with data “text/html
Ensure there is a “PerceivedType” key (string type) with data “text
  3. Check folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html.

If you don’t find these folders, then do nothing. Otherwise:
Ensure there is a “Content Type” key (string type) with data “text/html
Ensure there is a “PerceivedType” key (string type) with data= “text

Hey all
It would be great to be able to import alignment Landxml file to microstation "CONNECT".
Landxml Terrain model can already be imported so why not add alignment Landxml file support as well.
Would be good for us who are reviewing project planning.

Tom

Can anyone tell me when the automatic vertex deletion issue will be addressed? It has been several months and is still costing countless hours.

When modifying a line with multiple vertices the program automatically deletes vertices that is deems unimportant. The problem is that those vertices are important and need to remain in the line. I have spent countless hours manually fixing this.

I know others in the forums are also having this issue as well.

When will it be fixed?

Display Style not working in reference file

Microstation Connect Edition, Update 12

I have created a Display Style with the following conditions:

- Element is Shape

- Element is color = 2

When theese conditions are met and the Display Style is used, the element has to be shown with a pattern inside the shape.
This I have configured via the Actions and the pattern I use is taken from a cell library.

Here is my issue.

If I draw a shape element with the color = 2 and apply the Display Style, the shape element is displayed as wished.
But if I attach a reference file where there is a shape element with color = 2 and apply the Display Style, the element will not be shown with cell pattern inside. why is this..??

Hope someone has some advise.

Thanks

Stencil 2D Linestring/Chain to 3D Mesh drops to line elements?

$

Hi all,

I'm trying to stencil some very long linestrings/chains onto a 3d mesh and am finding the results are many individual lines. They are being draped successfully, but is there any reason why the linestrings/chains are being dropped to lines? There are so many that is not very practical.

I'm using MicroStation CE U12/OpenRoads Designer U7, but see the same behaviour in v8i.

Regards,

Mark
